Gig Launch has landed...
If you’re a solo artist or part of a band that are looking to get a few extra gigs, play a large festival or even just for a little bit more exposure, you may want to read on.
Gig Launch is an Australian online booking agency which works to meet the needs of artists and promoters, giving them a chance to get involved in the global music scene through gigs and promotion.
A relatively new initiative, we went live in April 2010 and aim to connect Aussie artists and bands with a myriad of local and international advertisers, other musical acts, and to push your music into all corners of the world. So how exactly does this Mecca of musical promotion work, you may ask? The process is simple. It’s cheap, cheap, cheap to join; the first month is free, then it’s either $5.95 or $7.95 a month, depending on how many megabytes you require. Then you create your very own Electronic Profile Kit (EPK) and upload content to your heart’s desire; pictures, audio, video… whatever. This page essentially becomes a webpage which you can dish out to all your mates and prospective promoters, but also a hub through which to spread your music.
Okay, so you have a profile, you have your tunes; you have your sexy photos and rocking videos, now what? Well, Gig Launch advertises different events and gigs that you can play at on our website. To apply for a particular gig or promotion, you submit your EPK and receive notification from the promoter on whether or not you were successful, or it may just be an enquiry in regards to your submission.
Now here’s the genius. Promoters can select a winner for the opportunity you’ve submitted to when, and only when, they check out your EPK. If they don’t look, they don’t get the band or artist; as it is an incentive-based process. You’re guaranteed that your profile will get viewed, and your music will get listened to, otherwise the promoter gets nothing.
Since our launch; the response has been overwhelming and we now have a huge and diverse range of acts on-board. Our database includes over 50’000 acts, and we already have more than 13’000 fans on MySpace. We also have Band Chat, where you can get in touch with other musicians, as well as make use of our free online guitar tuners and metronomes.
What makes Gig Launch so different is that we are entirely online. There is adequate incentive for both the artist and promoter to get involved, and there are great rewards for both parties. In a competitive music market, Gig Launch could mean the difference between playing a festival and playing your garage.
When asked why the website works so well, Jillian Jake, Director of Gig Launch, said:
“We’re connecting the artist to the promoter. When I was an artist we had to type and photocopy everything. Then we’d buy the plastic files and put your record, CD or tape in it, and each one would cost you between $10 and $15 to send. But with Gig Launch, you’re guaranteed that your submission will be viewed.”
Jillian Jake has been in the music industry for over 20 years, writing, playing, and producing. She has been a judge for the Melbourne Blues Performer of the Year Awards and for the Australian Song Writers Association as well as being their Song Evaluator. She has recorded 2 albums, here in WA and Nashville, won many Song Writing Awards and toured internationally, even Co Hosting a television show in Nashville USA.
She is the Principal of BAR (Blues And Roots) Promotions. When BAR commenced over 5 years ago, world radio stations that were playing Aussie Blues and Roots totalled approximately 50, today BAR has just released BAR Vol 7 which is heard in 81 countries on over 381 radio programmes and continues earning success for its artists today.
Jillian works with many Australian and Overseas Artists and began to hear the same complaints in the lack of choice in online Australian booking agencies. If an Artist wanted to play at the National Blues competition in Goulbourn, while the rules dictated that the Artist had to be Australian, they had to enter through an American online booking agency. The same applied to enter the Australian Song Writing Association’s Song Competition. This was typically annoying to Australians as the mechanics of dealing with an American Company were difficult due to the time differences and cost. Australians were becoming frustrated. Thus Gig Launch is born.
